The Copywriter
  July 2007

Dear %CUST1%,

Welcome to another edition of The Copywriter. Is it just us or is there genuine concern in the design and marketing industry now about the quality of written communications?

In recent months we have been working closely with the DBA, who are well known for their work championing design effectiveness. Like us, they see the quality of copywriting as an inherent part of quality design. As part of this collaboration we have given a workshop to DBA members on how to write an effective case study and awards submission. We have also recently written a number of Design Effectiveness award papers for several top Design Agencies, so fingers crossed…

Asking the right questions

It is increasingly obvious that the missing link in most copywriting projects is a coherent and credible brief. You may be given something called the ‘creative brief’ but when you’ve finished reading it you’re still often left asking, ‘who, why, where, when and how?’. It is the quality of the briefing that dictates whether a communications project goes well or goes badly wrong. And when budgets are constrained and the entire team is under pressure, a really sound, verified brief will save everybody time and money. We help our clients to ask the right questions, helping them to develop their tone of voice and tease out the key messages. It’s not always what they want to say, but rather, what their customer wants to hear.

We’re not the cheapest, so why do people still choose us to write their copy?

In a word because it always costs less when you get it right first time. And when the end result is outstanding rather than just OK. When copy goes wrong it means loss of face with the client, disrupted schedules and financial wrangles… Stratton Craig is unique in having over 20 years’ experience and being able to offer an established team of proven, professional copywriters. Our expertise lies in knowing exactly which writer will deliver the best copy in any give situation and being able to manage teams of writers on complex projects.

Winning ways…

Linking back to the point above, we have been fortunate this month in being chosen by two major clients to undertake significant writing projects. For Visit Wales we will providing web writing services for their current site and we’re currently working on a website for leading online recruitment specialists Monster.co.uk. We have also been fortunate enough to win the London Development Agency annual report for the second year running.
