Stratton Craig
The Copywriter
April 2006
Dear [Firstname],

Welcome to another issue of The Copywriter. The theme this month is ‘excellence’ - a quality that we hope comes as standard with Stratton Craig copywriting. In fact raising the standard of writing in business has been a mission of ours for more than a decade. We are therefore delighted to include in this newsletter some comments from a range of private and public sector clients about how our extra attention and willingness to listen has made all the difference to their communications.

We also refer to an ‘insight into copywriting’ course that we ran at Exeter University; the results were outstanding and it confirmed our belief that there is a hunger out there to know more about what the difference really is between excellent and so-so copy! Enjoy.

ASDA cereals  - with a splash of SC copy

With a new look to their cereals, ASDA wanted stunning copy to match. So we wrote all the copy for their entire cereal range. The copy had to incorporate a number of health messages while at the same time appealing to very different audiences. It was a tough job, with a tight deadline but the copy was very well received.

“I was impressed with the speed and accuracy of your work. There was a passion that came through and the result exceeded expectations. I was never left in doubt that the work was going to be completed on time and to our client’s satisfaction. I think what impressed me most was that Harriette and Paul were very good at listening and disseminating information.”

Exeter University copy course

Our two-day course on copywriting and PR at Exeter University went down a storm. Jim O’Connor and Harriette Hobbs led the first day, giving an insight into the world of advertising and other flavours of copywriting. Harriette liased with alumni and organised the second day with guest speakers including the head of Press and PR at the university. The course was really well-received with all the students giving positive feedback.

“Very well structured. I really enjoyed the tasks that were set because it meant there was some variation. I found everyone really approachable and willing to answer questions.”

“…an excellent insight, Jim and Harriette were both very enthusiastic about what they do. Really interesting.”

The sky’s the limit

When West Properties wanted to promote their new development, Skyline Central in Manchester, we were asked to write their brochure. We had to capture the exclusivity of these apartments while also making the copy accessible to the reader. The result? The client was wowed and has subsequently asked us to look at the copy for their website.

The Way Ahead

The second Way Ahead document "New ideas for sustainable growth? The South West is delivering…" was published in March 2006 to mark the end of a nine month phase of work by The Way Ahead Advisory Group. A meeting of minds between the public sector and the private sector, and a collaboration between the South West's major regional agencies (South West Regional Development Agency, Government Office of the South West and the Regional Assembly), this document was written for Central Government. The document needed to be accessible and readable while meeting the needs and requirements of a disparate and varied committee.

“Can I take the opportunity to thank Jeremy and Victoria for all their input and patience.  We all agreed that getting the first draft about right was really critical and you did an excellent job of interpreting our requirements.”
